Bolognese Dog Health Statement

Bolognese are generally healthy, long-lived dogs, and breed history and breeder experience reflect a low incidence of genetic disease. Thanks to a strong genetic foundation and careful breeding, the Bolognese remains a structurally sound and healthy breed. A responsible breeder will screen breeding stock for conditions such as luxating patella and eye disorders.

At this time, the American Bolognese Club, AKC Parent Club, feels that a responsible breeder will screen sire and dam for the following health tests:

• Evaluation of patellas by veterinarian at one year of age or older.

• Annual CAER (Companion Animal Eye Registry)

• PRA/prcd

Regular dental care and grooming are recommended to maintain the breed’s oral health, coat, and skin.

This Health Statement was approved by the American Bolognese Club Board of Directors on September 17, 2025.
